Veteran Media and First Amendment Law Attorney Joins Hiscock & Barclay, LLP
Mickey H. Osterreicher has joined Hiscock & Barclay’s Media and First Amendment Law Practice Area as Of Counsel in the Firm’s Buffalo office. He is experienced in contract, media, copyright and First Amendment law, and actively involved with matters such as cameras in the courtroom, the federal shield law, media access, public photography, orphan works and copyright infringement. Osterreicher also serves as general counsel to the National Press Photographers Association and is an award-winning photojournalist with 40 years of experience. Osterreicher is well-known for his involvement in the drafting of the Fair Trial/Free Press and Cameras in the Courtroom section of the New York State Bar Association Journalists’ Handbook. He contributes regularly to the Media Law Resource Center and the National Press Photographers Association magazine as well as other online publications, and has been nationally quoted in the news on various issues - most recently for the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. Additionally, Osterreicher has been an adjunct lecturer in Photojournalism at SUNY Buffalo and an adjunct law professor in media and the law at the University at Buffalo Law School.
He is a graduate of the University at Buffalo Law School, The State University of New York (J.D., 1998) and the State University of New York at Buffalo (B.S., 1973). Prior to joining Hiscock & Barclay, Osterreicher was the Director of Legal Affairs for the Erie County Department of Social Services.
