Hiscock & Barclay Continues to Grow Labor & Employment Practice with Additions of Edward G. Melvin II and Michael J. Sciotti

Syracuse, New York - May 1, 2014 - Three months after adding an experienced Labor & Employment attorney to its roster of partners, Hiscock & Barclay has brought in another veteran labor attorney.

Edward G. "Buster" Melvin II has joined Hiscock & Barclay, LLP as a Partner in the Labor & Employment Practice Area. Melvin comes to Hiscock & Barclay from Costello, Cooney & Fearon, PLLC where he had practiced for more than 17 years and served as a partner for a decade. In January, Hiscock & Barclay welcomed Michael J. Sciotti to the firm. Sciotti had spent 20 years with Hancook Estabrook, LLP.

Edward G. Melvin II

Melvin has represented clients in state and federal court at the trial and appellate levels, in arbitration hearings, as well as before the New York State Division of Human Rights and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Public Employment Relations Board, and the National Labor Relations Board.

A graduate of Syracuse University's College of Law and the College of the Holy Cross, Melvin is a member of the New York and Connecticut Bars, the Onondaga County Bar Association, the New York Bar Association and the Federal Court Bar Association for the Northern District of New York. Melvin is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of New York as well as the District of Connecticut.

Melvin is active in the community, serving as a member of the board for Vera House, McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Site and Imagine Syracuse. He is president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild and serves as a member of the finance committee at St. Lucy's Church where he is also President of the Parish Council.

Michael J. Sciotti

Sciotti graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology and Syracuse University College of Law. His work includes defending claims of unlawful discrimination against employers, overseeing workplace investigations, responding to audits by governmental agencies, conducting workplace training for supervisors and employees regarding compliance with state and federal laws, and providing advice to employers regarding employment law issues, among other things.

Since joining Hiscock & Barclay, Sciotti has continued his long practice of speaking on labor and legal issues, addressing human resource professionals as well as lawyers.
