June 18, 2018—Barclay Damon announces the arrival of 103 tax lawyer Sharon Brown to the firm's New York City office. She joins Barclay Damon as a partner and member of the Public Finance and Tax Practice Areas. Sharon was a longtime member of the tax group of Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP.
Sharon concentrates her practice on the federal tax treatment of tax-exempt bond financings. Her work includes acting as bond counsel, underwriters' counsel, and special tax counsel. She has extensive transactional experience with multi-family financings involving low-income housing tax credits, historical tax credits, and a variety of issuer and government subsidies and incentives. Additionally, Sharon has participated in power and energy tax-exempt bond financings. She also is an adjunct professor at Monroe College, where she teaches federal income tax courses.
"Sharon's extensive knowledge of complex tax matters, especially in 103 financings, and impressive legal portfolio rival that of the other top lawyers in her field, and she will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to Barclay Damon's public finance and tax practices," Connie Cahill, the firm's deputy managing partner, said. "We are excited to have such a proven professional join us in our growing New York City office, which will serve as her base to provide services to our numerous valued public finance clients throughout the state. Additionally, I am looking forward to welcoming her as a new and contributing member of our Women's Forum, where she can share her unique career insights and experiences with women colleagues."
John Langan, the firm's managing partner, said, "We are delighted to welcome Sharon, whose sophisticated 103 experience will greatly enhance our public finance practice, which represents a variety of New York State agencies and authorities, industrial development agencies and local development corporations, and over 100 school districts and municipalities across New York State as well as all of the major investment banks that act as underwriters for tax-exempt bond financings. In addition, Sharon's strong affordable-housing experience will allow us to continue to grow our mission housing practice, which represents developers, lenders, investors, and owners in real estate projects assisted by tax credits, tax-advantaged bonds, and governmental subsidies."
