Barclay Damon Lands Ex-NYSERDA Deputy General Counsel Peter Keane

Barclay Damon announces Peter Keane, of counsel, has joined Barclay Damon’s Regulatory and Project Development Practice Areas and Energy and Renewable Energy Teams. His primary office location is Albany.

Keane is an accomplished energy attorney with over 23 years of experience in all aspects of clean energy development. He has deep knowledge of clean energy policies and programs and has successful transactional experience with the largest renewable energy developers in the United States. Keane is well versed in renewable permitting processes, government procurement rules, renewable energy credit policies and procedures, and notice and comment proceedings before the New York State Public Service Commission.

Prior to joining Barclay Damon, Keane served as deputy general counsel for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for over 20 years. In this role, Keane was the lead attorney in the formation, development, and implementation of all NYSERDA clean energy programs. He was also involved in the design of various energy efficiency programs and represented NYSERDA research teams in the design and preparation of research and development programs.

“I’m excited to be back in private practice and to develop new client relationships while nurturing the relationships I already have with key industry contacts,” said Keane. “The firm has an impressive Regulatory Practice Group, and its focus on the energy industry—especially renewables—is of particular interest to me given my extensive background.”

Brenda Colella, Regulatory Practice Group leader and Renewable Energy Team co-leader, said, “I’ve known and worked closely with Peter over the last several years. Bringing him onto our team is a huge win for us. His knowledge of the renewable energy industry in New York State is unparalleled. We’re confident his experience will be a massive benefit to our client base, and will no doubt attract new clients who have regulatory needs.”

Rick Capozza, Renewable Energy Team co-leader, added, “Peter’s practice aligns directly with the rest of the Regulatory Practice Group and Renewable Energy Team, complementing our already-strong bench of attorneys in this fast-growing industry. New York State’s aggressive renewable energy goals for the coming years have resulted in the firm placing a concerted amount of resources into growing these practices to ensure we can not only meet our clients’ needs but also exceed their expectations.”

Barclay Damon attorneys team across offices and practices to provide customized, targeted solutions grounded in industry knowledge and a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses.
