Renato Smith Quoted in 1851 Franchise Article on Impact of Data Privacy Laws on Franchising

Renato Smith, Data Security & Technology Practice Area co-chair, shared his insight on how franchisors and franchisees can navigate complex regulations and implement robust data management practices in the 1851 Franchise article “The Impact Data Privacy Laws Will Have on Franchising.” 

About the legal and operational impacts of data privacy laws for franchises, Renato said, “Performing due diligence and configuring solutions to align with privacy laws requires significant time and labor. It can be challenging for franchisees to manage this while keeping up with business operations.”

Renato also shared best practices for franchises to mitigate risk and maintain compliance: hiring a data privacy officer (DPO) and developing and implementing a written information security program (WISP).
