John is the former chair of Barclay Damon’s Real Estate Practice Area. With over 40 years of legal experience, John primarily concentrates his practice on real estate, financial transactions, and related business matters. He additionally has extensive experience in estate planning and counsels individuals and families in wealth management.
John represents institutional mortgage lenders in all aspects of mortgage-loan transactions secured by multiple-family complexes, shopping centers, and hotels. He also handles asset recovery and represents lenders in mortgage-foreclosure work. John serves as counsel for industrial development agencies with respect to their involvement in real-estate-related transactions and he represents businesses and charities in general corporate, trusts and estates, and real estate issues. In leasing matters, he represents both landlords and tenants in negotiations for retail, office, manufacturing, and shopping-center lease transactions as well as real estate development ground-lease transactions.
Furthermore, he supervises mortgage-loan transactions and collaborates with litigation attorneys in matters involving adverse possession, rights of way, and other litigation matters. John additionally provides services for title underwriters in the role of examining counsel and represents title-insurance companies in title-defense claim work. He also serves as counsel for national and local residential builders who are active in the NYS market.
