Biography

Jesse is an experienced commercial litigator and counselor with a significant domestic and international practice. His insurance and reinsurance clients and counseling matters relate to primary, excess, and umbrella general liability insurance; reinsurance; professional liability; and financial and other product lines. Jesse has represented clients externally and as a former in-house general counsel in transactional, high-profile coverage matters, litigation, declaratory judgment, and insurance defense matters. Jesse also counsels clients in many different industries, including in claims and litigation, insurance and reinsurance, contracts, and other commercial and transactional matters. Jesse's clients are located throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Bermuda, and Europe. He is part of the firm’s Canada-US Cross-Border Team.

After gaining significant experience in a law firm setting, Jesse served for several years as general counsel and officer for an NYSE-traded global insurer and reinsurer headquartered in Bermuda. Based in the United States, he was responsible for insurance and reinsurance transactions, corporate acquisitions, corporate governance, employment counseling and disputes, employment counseling and disputes, commercial litigation, leases, US and foreign licensing, compliance, and regulatory matters. Additionally, he served on national and international executive committees with global responsibilities.

Representative Experience

  • Counsels corporate clients, including start-ups and more-established companies, on insurance, contract, and transactional matters as well as on matters relating to existing business operations or business expansion in the United States.
  • Defends clients in commercial litigation in state and federal courts, including high-profile coverage and other matters.
  • Represents clients in arbitration matters in New York State courts, federal courts, and elsewhere in commercial litigation and other matters.
  • Represents reinsurers, intermediaries, and cedants on US reinsurance arbitrations and litigation.
  • Provides coverage advice and counseling to insurers and reinsurers, including proposed policy terms, conditions, sub-limits and programs, contracts, and other aspects of their business.
