Hiscock & Barclay Welcomes To The Firm Former General Counsel and Senior Executive in the Technology Industry and Announces Formation Of New Emerging Technology Team

Hiscock & Barclay, LLP announces that M. Jack Rudnick, Senior V.P. of Legal and Government Affairs for Blue Highway and the former V.P. and General Counsel of Welch Allyn and Oneida Ltd., has joined the firm as Of Counsel. With the addition of Rudnick to the firm's growing Intellectual Property practice, the firm has formed an Emerging Technology Team to provide a special suite of services designed to support technology-based and start-up technology companies.

Rudnick, resident in the Firm's Syracuse office, is a seasoned corporate and intellectual property attorney. His legal and technical background provides technology-based companies and emerging technology clients with the business acumen to navigate complex contracts and intellectual property decisions, including the building of patent portfolios to protect what is often a company's most valuable asset – its intellectual property.

"Commercializing technology is complicated and made more difficult with the legal issues and considerations many new owners face. Hiscock & Barclay has the skill set to maneuver and advise clients to reach their business goals and offer creative fee packages that fit with a new company's financial limitations and potential," said Rudnick.

Over the past 40 years Rudnick has been a trailblazer, serving as General Counsel to several local corporations including Welch Allyn and Oneida Ltd. as well as informally mentoring and advising many of the in-house attorneys and general counsel in the area. At Hiscock & Barclay, Rudnick expects to reprise this role as a trusted advisor to our many clients that have an in-house legal department. He has been an adjunct professor at Syracuse University College of Law and the Legal Assistant Program as well as a faculty supervisor at the New York State Science and Technology Law Center. Rudnick is an active member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and the Association of Corporate Counsel for the Central and Western New York Chapter.

"Jack's extensive experience with high-technology companies like Welch Allyn and start ups such as Blue Highway, brings to the Emerging Technology Team the ability to help technology-based companies navigate the many challenges they face," said Hiscock & Barclay Managing Partner, John P. Langan. According to Langan, "We recognize future growth in business will come from small and mid-size businesses, and we are strategically focusing on helping them succeed because we believe it is these businesses that will lead to the rebirth of many rustbelt cities across the Northeast, in locations where Hiscock & Barclay already has offices established. It's an exciting endeavor and we're lucky to have Jack onboard to lead the way."

Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, listed as a "Top 250 Firm" by The National Law Journal, is a full-service, 200-attorney law firm, with offices throughout the major cities of New York State, as well as in Boston, Washington, D.C. and Toronto, providing comprehensive legal and business counsel to a diverse client base in 31 practice areas.
