Buffalo, New York – December 3, 2014 – Mickey H. Osterreicher, Of Counsel in Hiscock & Barclay's Buffalo office, testified on December 3, 2014 in his capacity as General Counsel for the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) at a hearing convened by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet on H.R. 917, the Sunshine in the Courtroom Act of 2013.
The hearing was held to help improve media coverage of the Supreme Court. Osterreicher testified on behalf of the NPPA, which is one of 19 national media and legal organizations that advocate for a more open and accountable U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts system as the Coalition for Court Transparency. In his testimony, Osterreicher called for increased accessibility of the U.S. Supreme Court. "Opening courts to electronic coverage is essential for the public to see that justice is being done, to be assured of the integrity of the process, and to better understand how decisions are made at both the trial and appellate levels, especially those of the Supreme Court," Osterreicher said in his testimony.
