Barclay Damon announces Rick Hartunian has joined Barclay Damon as a partner resident in the firm’s Albany and New York City offices. Hartunian brings over two decades of experience as lead government counsel in high-profile, high-stakes criminal and civil disputes and nearly eight years in Manatt’s corporate investigations and white-collar defense practice, bolstering the firm’s expanding White Collar & Government Investigations and Commercial Litigation & Complex Trials Practice Areas.
“Barclay Damon’s collaborative culture and wide range of legal services provide the ideal platform to serve my clients’ growing and evolving needs,” Hartunian said. “Whether it’s navigating enforcement risk, responding to an investigation, or building compliance programs from the ground up, I look forward to helping clients succeed using the full resources of the firm.”
At Barclay Damon, Hartunian’s practice will focus on white-collar defense, internal investigations, regulatory litigation, health care compliance, and related government affairs. His arrival further enhances the firm’s multidisciplinary capabilities in government enforcement and corporate risk mitigation. The firm’s clients will benefit extensively from Hartunian’s tenure with the Department of Justice, where he served as United States attorney for the Northern District of New York from 2010 through 2017. During his time with the DOJ, Hartunian led numerous high-profile prosecutions and coordinated national initiatives on drug trafficking, opioid abuse, and white-collar crime. Since returning to private practice, Hartunian has represented corporations, institutions, and individuals in high-stakes matters involving the DOJ, the SEC, and other state and federal regulators.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rick to the firm,” said Connie Cahill, Barclay Damon’s managing partner. “His deep knowledge of federal enforcement, cross-agency investigations, and public policy strengthens our bench and brings even greater value to clients facing complex regulatory and compliance challenges.”
Hartunian joins another former United States attorney at Barclay Damon, Dan French, who heads-up Barclay Damon’s White Collar & Government Investigations Practice Area alongside David Burch. French said, “Adding Rick as a second former US attorney in the Barclay Damon ranks significantly strengthens our already supremely capable government investigation defense team. All of us are looking forward to working with Rick, and I’m excited to be partners with Rick after 25 years of collaborating with him on various matters, including our time together at DOJ.”
Burch added, “We’ve been strategically adding highly skilled attorneys to our White Collar & Government Investigations and Commercial Litigation & Complex Trials Practice Areas to address shifting enforcement priorities, declining white-collar prosecutions, and the increasing emphasis on corporate accountability, individual liability, and internal compliance. Rick’s experience positions him to advise firm clients on emerging risks and heightened scrutiny across industries.”
