John Langan, Judah Lifschitz, and Rick Capozza Featured in New York Law Journal Article on Growth in Major Market Offices and New Practice Area

John Langan, chair; Judah Lifschitz, Power & Energy Construction Practice Area co-chair; and Rick Capozza, Energy Practice Area chair, were featured in the New York Law Journal article “Seeing ‘Unlimited’ Opportunities in Clients and Talent, Barclay Damon Targets Growth in 4 Major Markets” about the firm’s recent growth in New York City, Connecticut, Washington DC, and Boston and the creation of the Power & Energy Construction Practice Area to meet growing demand for power.

About the choice to expand the firm’s presence in it major market offices, John said, “That’s where the money is. They’re super great markets and they’re unlimited in terms of clients and talent.” He continued, “We spent 25 years growing from 50 to a couple hundred lawyers, all in upstate New York: Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse. That was quite a feat to be able to build something in that market. The upstate market has now stayed relatively flat, while our major markets have exploded.”

In the wake of Barclay Damon’s combination with Shapiro, Lifschitz & Schram, the newly created Power & Energy Construction Practice Area unites Barclay Damon’s established power and energy practice with the construction practice of Shapiro, Lifschitz & Schram. Judah said, “It’s not very common where you have strong groups that can merge construction and energy and deliver a combined benefit for a client.”

The growth of the firm’s Energy Practice Area corresponds to the increasing need for power. Rick Capozza, Energy Practice Area chair, said, “The trend we’re seeing is that the demand for power is huge right now. The need for data centers with [artificial intelligence] will be a significant demand on the power grid.”
