Trusts & Estates Senior Associate (Rochester)

Barclay Damon LLP, a leading regional law firm of approximately 300 attorneys that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Washington DC, and Toronto, is seeking an associate to join its Trusts & Estates Practice Area in the Rochester office. The attorney will support a growing trusts and estates practice representing primarily high-net-worth clients; provide advice and counsel on tax, asset protection, and business succession planning strategies and techniques; perform transactional work, including drafting wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and operating, shareholder, and other owner agreements; form and structure business entities; quantify tax impacts of estate and business succession plans and prepare flow charts of planning structures; work on estate and trust administration matters, including structuring and project managing the administration plan; supervise the preparation of accountings and estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns; and address procedural and disputed matters. The attorney will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with clients, referral sources, and other attorneys within the firm. 

Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, quantitative (e.g., computational abilities and ability to work with spreadsheets), matter management, and executive functioning skills are required. A strong work ethic is also required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in trusts and estates practice. A license to practice in Florida, an LLM in tax, and experience in corporate and transactional work will be highly regarded.

Salary Range: $130,000 to $155,000.

This salary range represents the firm’s good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for the position and does not include performance- or merit-based bonuses or other benefits offered by the firm. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, skill set, and office location.
