Donald S. Day
It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of our colleague and friend Don Day.
Don, who was Of Counsel to the firm, practiced law for 66 years and was undisputedly one of the preeminent attorneys in New York during his long and storied career. Don joined the Saperston firm in 1948 following his graduation from law school at Cornell and following exemplary service to our nation in World War II. The firm, which later became known as Saperston & Day was led by Don for many years during which Don served as managing partner. He joined Barclay Damon in 2001 at the time the firms merged.
Don's practice was a sophisticated corporate, tax, business acquisition and estate planning practice. He was the consummate lawyer who was sought out by prominent business clients and other lawyers alike. He was held in the highest regard by fellow members of the bar who sought his advice and counsel on matters including their personal matters. He was a lawyer's lawyer and a lion of the bar.
Don also was known throughout New York and internationally for his commitment to community service, including acclaim for his work in the international Jewish community and for important local causes including the Buffalo Children's Hospital and the Elizabeth Pierce Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired.
Don is survived by many family members including his wife Edith and his son, our partner and colleague, Rich Day. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
