Sara Payne Featured on Capital Pressroom Medical Marijuana Episode
Sara Payne, cannabis team leader and counsel, was recently interviewed by Capital Pressroom’s Susan Arbetter, discussing the changing legal landscape regarding marijuana legalization in both New York State and across the nation.
“New York and 30 other jurisdictions across the country––29 other states and DC––have legal medical marijuana programs. A number of other jurisdictions have also passed a number of adult-use laws that allow people of age to use marijuana in a recreational capacity. And now, our neighbor to the north, Canada, has passed nationwide legislation to legalize marijuana for recreational use, and those sales will begin on October 17. The tension between federal law and state law, including our laws here in New York, is really significant and it gives rise to problems in things like employment where some employers have a responsibility to the federal government.”
