Robert Barrer Receives Prestigious Burton Award for Excellence in Legal Writing

May 23, 2017 "” Barclay Damon LLP announces Robert A. Barrer, the law firm's Chief Ethics and Risk Management Partner, has been honored with a 2017 Burton Law360 Distinguished Writing Award.

Robert is among 25 honorees who received an award at a ceremony held at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, on May 22. Robert was honored for his article "Careless Keystrokes and Bad Decisions"”New York Law on Inadvertent Disclosure," published by New York Legal Ethics Reporter. The article discusses the ramifications of inadvertent disclosure referenced in New York State's rules of professional conduct for attorneys and civil statues and rules.

This year's award marks the second time Robert has won a Burton Award for his writing. He received his first Burton Award in 2006 for "Unintended Consequences: Avoiding and Addressing the Inadvertent Disclosure of Documents," published in the New York State Bar Journal.

Affiliated with the Library of Congress, the Burton Foundation is a nonprofit academic organization dedicated to excellence in legal writing. Nominations for Burton Awards come from the nation's largest law firms and law schools across the country. Now in its eighteenth year, Burton Awards are selected by professors at some of the most prestigious law schools in the country, including Yale Law School, Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, and Columbia Law School.
