Hiscock & Barclay's Angela Winfield Receives Young Lawyer Award from the New York State Bar for Pro bono Services

Angela Winfield, an Associate Attorney at Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, is this year's recipient of the 2011 President's Pro Bono Service Award in the Young Lawyer Category from the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). She received the award for her work with the Onondaga County Bar Association's Eviction Defense Clinic in Syracuse Housing Court. Winfield accepted the award at the New York State Bar Association's Law Day luncheon at the State Bar Center in Albany, NY on May 2, 2011.

Since her admission to practice in 2009, Winfield has been an active volunteer with the Onondaga County Bar Association's Eviction Defense Clinic. She appears once a month representing low-income tenants threatened with eviction. Winfield focuses her practice at the Firm in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Torts and Products Liability Defense. She is a graduate of Cornell Law School (2008) and a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Cayuga County, Auburn YMCA and Aurora of Central New York.

The NYSBA annually bestows the President's Pro Bono Service Awards to individuals and firms throughout the State who have rendered extraordinary pro bono service. This year the State Bar honored 20 individuals and groups for their service to their community.

"We are extremely proud to have Angela Winfield recognized for her pro bono efforts, " said Hiscock & Barclay's Managing Partner John Langan. "Angela is one of the firm's many shining stars who passionately embrace our professional responsibility to provide legal services on a pro bono basis. As a Firm, we recognize that pro bono work provides meaningful opportunities for training and professional development of our lawyers while serving a segment of the population that has great needs." Langan adds, "the Firm's commitment to public service is evident through our established pro bono policy, eliminating economic disincentives for pro bono service, and supporting pro bono activities firm-wide."

Last year Hiscock & Barclay won the President's Pro Bono Service Award from the NYSBA in the Large Law Firm category after donating thousands of hours to pro bono work through volunteer lawyer programs in cities throughout the State.

Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, listed as a "Top 250 Firm" by The National Law Journal, is a full-service, 200-attorney law firm, with offices throughout the major cities of New York State, as well as in Boston, Washington, D.C. and Toronto, providing comprehensive legal and business counsel to a diverse client base in 30 practice areas.
